(WACO, Texas)— Baylor University announced the university’s ninth Honor Roll title as a “Great College to Work For” on September 14. To achieve this status, the university needed positive employee feedback.

President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D attributed the award to faculty, staff, and students who share love and commitment for Baylor’s future Christian leaders.

“We are extremely proud to again not only be recognized as a Great College to Work For, but also be included as part of the prestigious Honor Roll in nine wide-ranging categories,” Livingstone said in a press release.

One of the nine categories Baylor was recognized for was professional/ career development programs that help their employees advance within their fields.

“As far as within my field of study, I have applied for fellowships and gotten grants to do research. The Institute for Oral History at Baylor supplied me with the funds to be able to do that,” journalism department lecturer Amber Adamson said. “There’s also just a lot of professional development— opportunities to go to seminars and conferences, opportunities to learn from teachers who have much more experience than I do.”

In another category, the university was recognized for allowing its employees a healthy work-life balance.

“I get to pick my daughter up three days a week from school. Not many working moms get to do that,” Adamson said. “I got to pick her up yesterday and take her to piano lessons, and, to me, the time that I’m able to spend with her because I have the flexibility to do my work outside of normal business hours is priceless.”

Baylor was also acknowledged for maintaining secure facilities and workplaces.

“Baylor is a very comfortable place to work. I feel like I work with colleagues who are also friends who also care about me,” Adamson said. “I feel at home here.”

Aside from the nine categories, Baylor was appreciated for its excellence amidst changes due to Coronavirus.

“In the face of unprecedented uncertainty, their commitment to faculty/ staff engagement never wavered,” ModernThink senior consultant Richard K. Boyer said in a press release. “In particular, institutions recognized in this year’s program as Great Colleges to Work For prove that it is possible to be a great workplace even in the face of disruptions, uncertainty and limited resources.”

Baylor University was one of 42 schools to achieve both a “Great College to Work For” and Honor Roll status.
